A family who resided in a rental property in Sacramento, the Capital of California located in Northern California, was removed from their property because of poor living conditions. These poor conditions included the dominant presence of toxic black mold and other potentially harmful molds in the air and on surfaces. A local lab tested the area and proved that such molds existed. Substandard living conditions are common among low-income residents in various parts of the country.
The family experienced breathing problems as a result of the mold presence in the air. The family complained to the landlord for several months about the mold problem, without a proper response. At one point the landlord suggested they clean it with bleach and paint over it, which is only a temporary solution for a serious mold problem.
